Bob and Jay Visit Kosciusko County Indiana

 In Uncategorized

As part of the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) 2018 conference, Bob and Jay had an opportunity to visit Kosciusko County, Indiana.  This was a pre-conference trip to show off the amenities of a very nice Indiana county.

Where Bob and Jay stayed in Kosciusko County

Bob and Jay were met at the check in at the Oakwood Resort in Syracuse by Jill Boggs, the Executive Director of the Kosciusko visitor center and her husband Sam.    They were joined by Paul Vang, one of the OWAA board members and his wonderful wife Kay.  The stay at the Oakwood was only for one night but the accommodations were excellent and the staff treated Bob and Jay like any other valued guest, even after they found out who they really were!

The Oakwood was founded in 1893 as a permanent camp ground for Christian Youth groups, and there remains a number of historic pictures of some of these meetings in the Oakwood hallways.  Today, the Oakwood stands as a testimony to renewing the body, mind, and spirit of its guests.  The Oakwood Resort is only a couple of hours from Chicago or Indianapolis.  Click here for more information.

But the visit didn’t end there.  After a very nice dinner, hosted by Jill at Pier & Back Porch Restaurant, also located at the Oakwood Resort.  Jill arranged for Paul, Bob and Jay, to do some Muskie fishing on Webster Lake with a local fishing guide the following day.  The three men met Chae Dolson of Webster Lake Guide Service early the following morning and were soon on one of the premier Muskie lakes in Indiana.

They say, that catching Muskies is a fish of a thousand casts and this day was no exception.  Chae knew where the fish were and expertly put the three men on

them.  The water was clear and the day was sunny.  Muskies could frequently be seen following the baits that Chae provided. There were even a few stikes that keep the anglers on edge.  Bob and Jay, being attentive to the fact that there was a Board Member of OWAA among them, purposefully allowed for a couple of early releases so that Paul could be the only one to actually boat a fish which was quickly released back into the lake unharmed.  Chae was a very attentive guide and even taught Bob how to use a casting rod, which Jay was sure could never be accomplished!

All in all the pre-conference trip was a huge success.  Bob and Jay thank Jill for setting this up putting up with all their attempts at humor.  For more information about Kosciusko County click here.
