This is the second part of The Proper Care and Feeding of a Huntin’ Buddy. This is written from Bob’s perspective, and as you might guess there are some differences between this reflection and Jay’s. Who would have ever thought?
This story is about the same elk hunt as referenced in Jay’s Part 1 and culminates in the decent from the mountain spike camp. There is some hilarious “tongue in cheek” tips one huntin’ buddy might apply and an ending that will have everyone in stitches.
Even though this was not the first story, or even the second, that they wrote, the inspiration for this story actually was the first elk hunt that Bob and Jay took together and that cemented the huntin’ buddy relationship between them.
Here is a brief snippit toward the end of the story to wet your appetite. “Alas, he passed by about a foot away, and I was only able to release my grip on the tree and reach a few inches to try to give him aid. After all, I still needed to maintain my firm grip on the tree so as to save him. Huntin’ buddy etiquette does not require you to risk your own life in the aid of a huntin’ buddy. I gave Jay a second chance by thrusting the heel of my boot quite briskly out at him as he went by.”
This is only a snippet. You will need to buy the book get the whole story and a belly laugh that will have you family begging to know what you are reading.
